Philips HD8847 – Quality and Versatility
Phillips is a name you can trust, and you can trust this great bean to cup coffee machine to make the perfect cup of coffee every time. It’s extremely versatile and accepts both whole beans as well as pre ground coffee, giving you a multiple options as to the type of coffee you want, when you want it. For example you could have a bag of whole robusta beans for a powerful morning coffee and then have the ground coffee hopper filled with an aromatic Arabica blend for an afternoon pick me up.

Adjustable Grind
The Phillips HD8847 comes in either black or silver, it has adjustable grinder settings. You may ask why you want this? But adjustable coffee grinder settings allow you match the coffee type to the type of coffee you are wanting to make. For example, if you want to make a creamy, strong espresso then you would use a fine grind setting. However, if you wanted a smooth, relaxing cup of more delicate flavoured coffee you could use a coarser grind setting to allow the beans to release a depth of flavour without the same intensity as an espresso. The great thing about this espresso machine is that you do have that versatility, unlike some other models on the market that only allow 1 grind setting or only one type of coffee to be loaded into the machine at once.
Cleaning the Phillips HD8847
This is one of the best bean to cup coffee machines on the market currently for its ease of cleaning. It’s built in, 1-touch self cleaning function flushed through the tubes in the machine and helps to ensure your coffee tastes fresh every time. I have used this machine extensively myself and have found that the cleaning system works very well most of the time, but for a really thorough clean you need to use Philips descalers 250ml (Pack of 2 bottles)

or another brand that I have used and found works well is the Ambiclean Milk Frother Cleaner which is a product used by many professional baristas.
Advantages and Disadvantages of the Phillips HD8847
You can’t go wrong buying this bean to cup coffee machine, not only is it from a well respected, established brand who are renowned for their great customer service should anything go wring with it, it is aslo one of the most versatile machines available. It should cater to almost all of your needs, whether you use whole beans or pre ground coffee, making one cup or two, or whether you want to make a cappuccino or an espresso. The HD8847 does all of these things extremely well.

For the more advanced home barrista you may find that the 1-touch settings for cappuccino and espresso don’t allow you to express your coffee making skills to the full, there isn’t much skill required with this machine to produce excellent coffee but some might find that this lack of challenge means the excitement of finally producing a perfect expresso is an issue.
Personally, when I’m rushed in the mornings on my way to work all I want it a great tasting cup of coffee to get me going and the Phillips HD8847 does this extremely well, not only that, but it’s also easy to clean and maintain too.
