De’Longhi

DeLonghi make some of the best bean to cup coffee machines on the market, and they should know as they have been making them since 1902!  All the DeLonghi Bean to Cup Coffee Machines look similar and with confusing names such as ECAM 4200 or ECAM 4000, it’s hard to distinguish the differences between them.

Common Features

  • All De’Longhi Bean to Cup Coffee machines can be used with with pre ground coffee, or whole roasted coffee beans.
  • They all make good coffee
  • All have a 15Bar pressure pump
  • They all have milk frothers
  • All have a 13 step integrated coffee grinder

Main Differences

  • Some have the Automatic Cappuccino maker function
  • One Touch Automatic milk frother
  • Touch Screen control panel
  • Digital control panel
  • No display, just knobs and buttons
  • Ability to save your settings
  • How fast it makes the coffee
  • Integrated Cup warmers
  • Control via Wifi

More money = more features

Generally, the more money you pay, the more features you will get.

The table below gives an overview of what each machine can do. These are all DeLonghi Bean to Cup Coffee machines. This should help you compare the different bean to cup coffee machines available.

When comparing De’longhi coffee machines you may notice that some are very similar to each other, and you’d be right, they are.

Some machines only differ in colour, often the last letter of the machine name denoted the colour, for example ECAM 4200.s is Silver.

.S means Silver in De’Longhi speak….

De’Longhi’s top bean to cup coffee machines feature full metal cases and stainless steel trim and parts.

If you are comparing the ECAM 4200 to ECAM 28.466.M for example, then you will notice that the cheaper 4200 is all plastic, lacks some advanced functions and doesn’t have automated milk frothing functions. This doesn’t mean it will produce worse coffee, only that it will require more skill and time to produce a cappuccino or similar.

    Hi there Roger,
Help! We are looking to buy a new machine and are completely overwhelmed by all the options out there! We had a Delonghi Magnifica that we purchased in January 2012 and have loved and been very happy with up until the fiddly (and not so sturdy) milk frother dial broke, twice, and is now no longer fixable…. a lot of MacGyver work went in to keeping it going up to now.

While we were very happy with the machine the fact that a lot of the knobs etc. are made of plastic we are looking for a new machine that will be more sturdy and are thinking that digital is the way to go. Again, I’d like to clarify that we were extremely happy with this machine and the coffee it produced (primarily lattes) and that all the other parts of the machine are still functioning perfectly.

So, we are now stuck between the:
De’Longhi Eletta Bean to Cup Coffee Machine ECAM44.620, 1450 W
    De’Longhi ECAM 45.760.W
    and possibly the Delonghi ETAM29.620.SB

We can’t quite distinguish the difference between the Authentica and the Eletta and we’re hoping you might be able to help our addled brains into deciding which would be best.

We use the machine daily, usually only once in the morning and as mentione primarily for lattes.

    Thanks in advance,
Caroline and her long suffering husband 😉

      November 18, 2016 at 12:57 pm

      Hi Paul,

The ESAM 3000.b is the older model, the controls and the milk frothing wand have been upgraded on the ESAM 4000.b. Both make a good cup of coffee, as the grinder and boiler is the same.

I would say that the 22.110.B is slightly better, it has a few more options for frothing milk and I think the control panel is easier to use.

Sounds like you got a good deal there! Don’t forget to get some quality coffee beans, I like to use Lavazza – From Amazon Here – These will make a great standard coffee and will allow you to test out your machine and get your technique right before using more expensive / speciality beans.

    • Roger Blackheart says

      August 19, 2016 at 12:22 pm

      Hi Wendell,

The ESAM 4000 is an old model that is not produced by De’Longhi anymore. The ESAM 4200 is a better machine, with a quality milk frothing arm. The ESAM 4200 is the UK’s most popular bean to cup coffee machine and is great value considering the price!
