This is a review of the
NESCAFE Dolce Gusto Melody 3 Manual Coffee Machine by Krups – Black
‘…a fantastic, well-priced pod coffee machine that will please everyone that drops by’
Nescafe has the capability of producing some genuinely awful coffee in the form of instant tubs but don’t tarnish the Nescafe Dolce Gusto with the same brush. The Dolce Gusto pods come in over 30 varieties and the coffee is a very reasonable quality with a pod to suit every taste.
The Dolce Gusto Melody 3 looks like a small animal if I’m being honest but at the same time it looks pretty futuristic and cool. Despite its plastic build it does have a decent build quality and is very easy to keep clean and look after, requiring almost zero maintenance.
Different coffees need different pressure in order to bring them to their full flavour and while the machine has no ability for you to set the pressure, the design of the pods is so that the machine knows the pressure to use. Its maximum pressure is 15-bar – coffee shop standard and you couldn’t ask for more.
Enjoy excellent coffee at home without spending a fortune
For those who are interested in home coffee machines but don’t want the initial outlay of a high quality espresso machine they’re not sure they’ll use, this is an ideal compromise. It’s very affordable and extremely easy to use so you don’t have to learn grind settings, pressure settings or anything else. If you fall in love with good coffee at home then you can look further into superior espresso machines and bean-to-cup machines.
Each part of this Nescafe Dolce Gusto Melody 3is designed for a specific purpose and it remains small and stable wherever you put it on your work surface. The rounded back of the machine houses the 1.3 litre water tank, a really great size that gives you plenty of coffees before needed to be refilled. The machine only heats the water it needs for the drink you’re making, ensuring speed and that the remaining water in the tank isn’t heated multiple times.
The drip tray is height adjustable which is really important for different drinks such as espresso and latte. These require very different cups and glasses and the height can be easily changed to accommodate all types of cups. Above the spout and drip try is the pod tray, and that’s the only maintenance you need to do on a coffee-by-coffee basis; throw away the old pod!
Lattes, espressos, hot chocolates…
With an in-built automatic milk frother, you can use different pods to create anything from lattes to espressos and hot chocolates which no effort at all. Soon you’ll be a dedicated coffee connoisseur and won’t remember a time before this machine.
While this is easy to use, you do have to manage the water supply to your cup and move the lever when you’ve got enough water. This isn’t as good as the automated Bosch Tassimo Vivy but it does give you more control.
How does it Compare?
Krups have been producing affordable goods for decades and with the partnership of Nescafe, they’ve produced a fantastic, well-priced pod coffee machine that will please everyone that drops by. The pods have their strength marked on them and the variety of drinks is enough for even the most fickle drinker.
If you’re looking for a way to try excellent coffee at home but aren’t sure you’ll use it enough to justify an espresso machine – try this out, you won’t be disappointed. This isn’t instant coffee you’re dealing with anymore, these pods are full of aromatic ground roasted coffee beans that will be brewed perfectly in your brand new Dolce Gusto Melody 3.
